June 2024

Action 2 – Border Target Operating Model (FSA 23/12/06)

Anjali Juneja to consider how issues around animal feed could be addressed within the BTOM trusted trader schemes.

March 2024

While the BTOM sets out the controls for the importation of Products of Animal Origin, including Animal By Products which may be used for animal feed, the scope of the trusted trader pilots are initially intended to focus on the controls on medium risk products of animal origin for human consumption.

Unprocessed animal by products intended for use as pet food are excluded from the scope of the trusted trader pilots at this stage due to the risk profile these commodities present. The only commodities in scope of the pilots are highly processed and already packed for retail sale – this could include canned pet food and treats such as a packaged pet chew. We will keep this under review as the TT pilots progress.
