Last updated

This guidance sets out the process for implementing the use of alternative methods for the disinfection of tools in slaughterhouses, approved game handling establishments (AGHE) or a cutting plant in England and Wales.

The purpose of the guidance is to help food business operators and enforcement officers understand the validation and verification procedures for the use of alternative systems for disinfecting tools which is equivalent to the use of water at 82˚C and above.

It sets out the principles of the implementation process by providing an overview of the assessment steps for both businesses and officials, including details of their roles and responsibilities.  The guidance does not cover all possible alternative disinfection methods or highlight how certain methods could be used on the wide variety of tools available.
