Steve Ruddy - FSA Board Member

Profile

Steve is a highly experienced local government leader with a strong background in regulatory services and consumer protection. A qualified Trading Standards Officer, Steve has led multidisciplinary teams across Environmental Health and Trading Standards in Leicestershire, London, Buckinghamshire, and Surrey.

From 2020 to 2022, Steve served as Chair of the Association of Chief Trading Standards Officers and was a Director of Trading Standards South East Ltd from 2015 to 2024. He currently chairs the Board of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI).

During his time with Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards, Steve played a pivotal role in establishing and hosting the region’s first enforcement team, known as Scambusters. He worked closely with National Trading Standards, hosting the National Trading Standards Scams Team and delivering key national enforcement roles on behalf of the Advertising Standards Authority and the Office for Students.

In 2024, Steve founded Consumer Compass Ltd, a consultancy specialising in supporting local government regulatory services. He also serves as the South East regional lead for Operation Jigsaw (funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government), helping build capacity and expertise within local authority Private Sector Housing teams to raise standards in the private rented sector.

An individual may have other interests and while the FSA is aware of these, they are judged to be not relevant to the Members’ role and therefore not in scope for publication.

All relevant interests are managed by the department to prevent the risk of perceived, potential or actual conflicts of interest.
