Scratch Meals recalls Scratch Chicken & Veggie Tikka Masala because it contains high levels of Niacin and Zinc

Scratch Meals Ltd is adding an additional use-by date of 29 March 2022 to its recall of Scratch Chicken & Veggie Tikka Masala with spiced brown rice because it contains incorrect ingredients, Niacin and Zinc which are not listed in the ingredients list on the label. This means it may be unsafe.

Risk statement

The presence of niacin and zinc may cause a temporary adverse reaction. Although, they might cause discomfort, they are unlikely to pose a serious risk to health.

Symptoms caused by consuming large amount of niacin and zinc usually include hot flushes, tingly feelings, sickness and diarrhoea.

Action taken by the company

Scratch Meals Ltd is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

Our advice to consumers

If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

About product recalls and withdrawals

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
