Safer food, better business for retailers

This pack is for small retail businesses that sell food, including any food that needs to be kept cold to keep it safe, such as milk, dairy products or sandwiches. These include small convenience stores, 'corner shops' and confectioners, tobacconists and newsagents. It has been developed to help retail businesses across the UK comply with food hygiene regulations.

The new-look version of the pack (published February 2016) includes new advice and is easier to use. Your business can keep and complete your Safer food, better business records on a computer, or print them out for filling in.

Download the pack

You can read about how to use the pack and:

or  just choose, download and print the sections that you need, using the links further down this page

Using the diary

There are two options. You can keep your diary electronically – just download the diary pages onto your device, fill them in, with the appropriate month and year and store them electronically. Or, you can print out the diary and fill it in.  There is also a diary refill you can use when you need more pages.

You should store all your completed diary pages safely – electronically or on paper – until your next visit from a local authority food safety officer. They may want to look at your diary pages, as well as your SFBB pack.
