A consultation seeking stakeholders’ views on proposed changes to the Food Law Code of Practice (the Code), in Northern Ireland, to implement a new food standards delivery model.

This consultation will be of most interest to: 

  • Competent Authorities – District Councils (DCs) 

  • Food businesses 

  • Professional awarding bodies 

  • Trade Unions and expert groups may also have an interest. 

Consultation subject 

The proposed changes to the Code will implement a new food standards delivery model, including increasing the flexibility local authorities have to use official control methods and techniques, and directing DC resource to where it is most needed to tackle risk in the food chain. 

Purpose of this consultation 

To seek stakeholder views on the proposed changes to the Code that are necessary to introduce the new food standards delivery model.  

Engagement and consultation process 

A twelve-week public consultation is being launched to provide interested parties with an opportunity to comment on the proposed changes to the Code.

Comments and views are required by midnight Monday 9th January 2022.
