Margaret Gilmore re-joins the Board, having been a member from 2008 until 2014. Margaret, who is also Deputy Chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, is well known for her time as Environment and Agriculture Correspondent at the BBC.

West Yorkshire livestock farmer Timothy Riley runs a pedigree beef shorthorn herd and is a Director of the UK Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society. He is also a Non-Executive Director for Better2Know Limited, member of the DEFRA Farm Animal Genetic Resources Committee, and Executive Chair to Wellstate HTA Limited, a health technology and economics consultancy.

Mark Rolfe has more than 30 years of experience as a Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner, working in Kent. In 2015, Mark was appointed Head of Kent Scientific Services, and he has also served on the FSA Science Council since its inception in 2017, as the member representing consumers’ and citizens’ interests, leaving in late 2019.

Heather Hancock, Chair of the Food Standards Agency, said:

'I am delighted to welcome Margaret, Tim and Mark to the FSA Board. They bring a breadth of knowledge and experience, and I look forward to working with them as we continue to protect consumers’ interests in relation to food.'

All appointees took up their positions on 18 November 2019.

Board members are paid an annual remuneration of £8,000 for approximately 20 days a year. All appointments are made on merit and these appointments have been made in accordance with the guidance issued by the Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
